Acupuncture Treatments in Glasgow

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points in the body. Needles may be placed around an area of pain but they may also be placed all around the body, from the hands to the feet. The needles are inserted very quickly and once remove are safely disposed of. Acupuncture is usually used on its own but sometimes other techniques will be added to enhance a treatment.

Tui Na Massage

Tui Na (push-grasp) is a form of oriental bodywork that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It is a hands on treatment using the same principles as Acupuncture. Techniques such as grasping, rolling, kneading, traction and pressure are used to remove blockages along the channels (meridians) of the body to stimulate the flow of Qi and blood to promote healing. It is a very physical treatment, not usually used for relaxation. Tui Na can be very effection for a varienty of problems including musculoskeletal pain, fertility issues, digestive problems and stress related conditions. Treatment is usually carried out on the skin, adults and children can be treated and it is safe to have during pregnancy. In some cases liniments, compresses or plasters may also be used.

Acupressure massage.

Acupressure massage uses the same principles as acupuncture but with pressure instead of needles. Acupressure can be used all over they body to promote the flow of Qi and Blood in the channels. Acupressure massage can be used on its own or in conjunction with acupuncture and other techniques. It is a deep tissue oil based massage.

Cupping.

This treatment involves glass cups being placed on the skin, a vacuum is created inside the cup and this causes the skin to draw up inside the cup. This technique is used to move stagnation or blockages in the channels. It is a very strong treatment and will leave bruises on the skin.

Moxabustion (Moxa).

This technique involves a dried herb called Mugwort that can be burned to give heat. The moxa can be burned on the end of the needles, or held close to a point.

Electro-acupuncture.

In some conditions a small current of electricity may be passed through the needles in order to give a slightly stronger treatment.

Auricular acupuncture

The ear has many acupuncture points that can be used to treat a variety of conditions. This treatment can be very effective in addictions such as smoking. In auricular acupuncture needles are placed around the ear. In some cases seeds or small metal pellets will be placed in the ears rather that needles. These pellets can then be left in place for up to a week.
